Originally named "Pelican," the galleon was used to circumnavigate the globe between 1577 and 1580. In addition to its lateen rigging on the mizzenmast, it also has a small water sail and beakhead under the bowsprit. Galleons developed from carracks, hence the lowering of the forecastle.
